Cyber Crime Reporting Website
The internet has become an integral part of our lives. In the Netherlands, a large portion of the population has access, at home, at work, or at school. Unfortunately, besides the many advantages it brings, the internet also has disadvantages. Subversive elements can use it to express malicious ideas, spread hatred, incite violence, disseminate child pornography, or approach minors in the hope to establish a sexual relationship. Websites, chat boxes, news groups, and forums are at their disposal.
Cooperation
In order to provide the competent authorities with a better insight into the problems and to give them the tools to efficiently fight these criminal phenomena, the Minister of Justice and the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations have given the go-ahead for the Cyber Crime Reporting Website. The Netherlands Police Agency will manage the website and is responsible for passing on the information to the proper organisations. The team behind the reporting website closely cooperates with other parties involved with the domain, such as internet service providers and support groups.
Police reporting website
The Cyber Crime Reporting Website is a Dutch police internet reporting site for tip-offs on child pornography and sexual behaviour towards minors, as well as on extremist and terrorist postings (originating in the Netherlands) on or via the internet.
Tip-offs
A tip-off may serve as the basis for further action by the police, the judicial authorities, law enforcement or intelligence services. However, passing on information anonymously is not the same as lodging an official complaint or officially reporting a crime. In the first case, the police are made aware of a crime, in the latter case, an official report is drawn up by the local police.
National emergency number 112 is available for urgent and life-threatening situations.
Confidentiality
Information received through the Cyber Crime Reporting Website will be dealt with confidentially. It is possible to report a serious crime anonymously through the anonymous tip-off hotline (00 31 (0) 800 - 7000 in Dutch, English, German or Arabic).
